I didn't have the best weekend, but I'm looking on the bright side. You probably heard me mention on the radio that my wife, Susan, was in the hospital to have a large mass (the size of a grapefruit) removed from her pelvic area, along with a complete hysterectomy. The surgery went okay, but removing the mass was challenging and took longer than the doctor expected. Normally, she might have come home the same day (Thursday) but they kept her in until Sunday. The pain was part of the reason. It was easier to treat the pain with injections than it would have been to bring her home and try to treat it with pills.
So, kind of a low-key and different set of five photos from my weekend.
Every hospital has a few family lounges, where families can go to take a break from the hospital room, or where the patient can go with family to play games, do puzzles and get a change of scenery.
BTW, this discussion of the family room is in not any reflection on how I feel about the hospital she went to. The staff was beyond great and so caring and warm. And the discussion about the family room isn't even a complaint, it's a question.
The family room had old VHS movies, some open puzzles, some books and a game of Scrabble. "Hmmmmm", I thought. "Does anyone play these games, watch these movies or play with these puzzles? They don't look very inviting."
But it's also 2018. People may just play on their phones instead and not need games or videos.
So I asked around on Twitter and talked to a nurse friend of mine. Turns out some hospitals have needs and some don't. Some parts of hospitals have plenty of new games and some have none.
So what's the answer? Is there a problem at all? It's hard to say but it seems like there is. We'll be talking about it this week on our show and see what we can do to help.
Of course, Susan didn't want me to take a picture of her in the hospital, but here are Carson and Allison visiting her. Hospitals are a lonely place. If you have a friend there, stop by for a few minutes. I'd suggest don't stay too long. They're probably tired and need to rest.
Here's some fun news! We are doing a charity motorcycle ride for Pause for Paw in May and we did a photo shoot with Roger for the website and social media. Jill from Pause for Paws gave him this catnip banana and of course, he loved it.
Allison and I love to go see scary movies together and Saturday afternoon, we went to see "A Quiet Place." It was a little slow-moving, but it was good and the premise and ending were great.
When your weekend is so slow that you take yet another picture of your cappuccino machine, you know it's a slow weekend. But it's so cool!
