Sherri Rasmussen was found dead in February 1986 in an apartment she shared with her husband, John Ruetten, in California. Rasmussen had been beaten and shot three times in a struggle.The case had been cold for over 20 years until the cold case unit of the LAPD realized they were missing something obvious. Police had thought it was a burglary gone awry. That’s how it looked, at least, to the Los Angeles police detectives who arrived at a gated condo complex in the Van Nuys section of Los Angeles but it was far from the truth.
